Ofosu Jones-QuarteyBA, CGI Associate

Ofosu Jones-Quartey has been teaching mindfulness meditation for over 17 years. He began practicing meditation as a personal endeavor in 1999. In 2002, he met his teacher, Bhante Buddharakkhita, who taught him Vipassana (mindfulness) meditation and he has been practicing in this tradition since. Ofosu’s definition of mindfulness is simple – it is the act of paying kind, focused attention to your life from moment to moment in such a way as to bring more calm, strength and happiness to every aspect of your life.

Ofosu, who brings a unique, engaging and interactive approach to mindfulness practice, has taught with the Insight Meditation Community of Washington (IMCW) since 2004, first as a guest teacher and later as a main teacher in their Family Mindfulness program. Recently, Ofosu has been working with Minds, Incorporated to bring mindfulness practice to schools, working with students directly in the classroom since 2014. Ofosu teaches teachers as well, equipping them with mindfulness tools they can offer in their work environments and schools. He also offers private lessons as well as group and corporate workshops, giving talks domestically and internationally.

Ofosu has co-led mindfulness meditation retreats at Seven Oaks Retreat Center in Virginia for IMCW, Spirit Rock Retreat Center in California, the Insight Meditation Society (IMS) in Massachusetts, as well as JRH for Cleveland Insight.  He recently finished a year-long teaching engagement at the Just Meditate studio in Bethesda, Maryland.  He has also had the honor of being invited, twice as a delegate and once as a panelist, to the United Nation’s International Vesak Celebration – an annual event held in Bangkok, Thailand that brings together scholars and leaders from around the world to discuss how various meditative and social disciplines can positively affect global change.

Ofosu is the creator of the “Four Steps to Mindful Happiness” – a simple but revolutionary approach to bringing mindfulness into every aspect of one’s life in an effortless way. His teachings on the power of mindfulness have been featured in notable publications such as Lion’s Roar and Shambhala Sun. Also an accomplished musician, Ofosu performs both domestically and internationally as a Hip Hop and Electronic Music artist. His writings on how he incorporates his mindfulness philosophy into his secular music have been published by Mahachulalongkorn University in Ayutthaya, Thailand. He is a sought-after vocal talent as well, having lent his voice to Sesame Street Studios, the Ollie & Moon Show, and currently working with Inner Explorer on an audio series of guided meditations.

Ofosu has recently finished writing and self-publishing his first children’s book “You Are Enough”. He currently lives in the Washington, DC area with his wife and their four children.
